Dear Lord, I Mourn

Dear Lord, I mourn
For a world shaken and bruised.
Bruised by the affects of sin
Leaving many lost and confused.
Things never seem to be ideal
And so many ask themselves why.
Why can't we love our brother?
Why can't we value life?
Why can't we love unconditionally,
Even when we don't agree?
Why can't we move beyond our hurts?
Why can't we just break free?

Dear Lord, I mourn
For Your creation divided.
Divided by social constructs
That You Yourself never cited.
Divided by what injustices
Are thought to be worse,
Praying for all the same things
But divided in what we hope You change first.
Divided by what we believe
Is a suitable stance
About which methods to employ
To make humanity advance.

Dear Lord, I mourn
For those who are hurting
But then take all that hurt
And turn it into burning
Down the very cities
And towns where they sleep.
Not caring if it harms their brothers
Even those who also weep.
Wanting to find an outlet
For all the pain and despair
But when they look up from the rubble
Find they have gotten nowhere.

Dear Lord, I mourn
For those in deep blue
Sworn to serve and protect
But sin sometimes breaks through
Who fall short of Your glory
And grow tall in their pride
Whose actions sometimes leave
Trails of tears being cried.
For those in uniform
Who are killed and harassed
Grouped in with those who do wrong
Though they themselves stand aghast

Dear Lord, I mourn
For the paradise lost
For wanting to be our own gods
But not grasping the cost.
Not just in knowing
what is good and what is evil,
But choosing which is which
With our hearts so deceitful!
Looking for our own justice
Instead of to the just Judge.
Not looking for true forgiveness
But on ways to enact a grudge.

You, Creator of everything
Knowing just how it should be,
Are the only avenue for solace
The only avenue for peace.
You sent Your only Son
To die for all this
But many focus on their own way
And Him they dismiss.
But it is You who calls the weary and burdened
Who says to them find rest
Who promises to sustain them
And to this I can attest.
You have given us Your Word of truth
Through Your Word we hear Your voice
So although dear Lord, I deeply mourn
It is in this that I REJOICE.
